First ScreenAirbnb's in New York is an interactive data visualization, which has the sense to visualize information only with information-bearing graphic elements. In this project no typography or other irrelevant graphic elements were used to focus on the actual information. Information should be presented as intuitively as possible, so that ideally no labeling is required.
My data visualization went over the Airbnb apartments in the city of New York. It compared in five different views the factors location, frequency, price per night, calls per month and apartment type. All apartments are grouped geographically and are symbolized by a rectangle.
Airbnb's in New York" ist eine interaktive Datenvisualisierung, welche das Ziel verfolgt Informationen mit informationstragenden grafischen Elementen zu visualisieren. Bei diesem Projekt wurden keinerlei Typografien oder sonstige irrelevanten grafischen Elemente benutzt, um die eigentlichen Informationen in den Fokus zu setzen. Dabei sollten Informationen möglichst intuitiv dargestellt werden, sodass es im Idealfall keiner Beschriftung bedarf.
Meine Datenvisualisierung betrifft die Airbnb Wohnungen in der Stadt New York. Sie vergleicht in fünf verschiedenen Ansichten die Faktoren: Ort, Häufigkeit, Preis pro Nacht, Aufrufen pro Monat und Wohnungstyp. Dabei sind alle Wohnungen geografisch gruppiert und werden durch ein Rechteck symbolisiert.
The first, and therefore the home view, represents a relation between the number of Airbnb's and the geographical location, in order to identify possible more popular areas by a higher opacity. The fewer Airbnb homes there are in a location, the lower the opacity of the displayed rectangle.
Die erste und somit auch die Startansicht stellt eine Relation zwischen der Anzahl der Airbnb´s und der geografischen Lage dar, um eventuelle beliebte Gegenden durch eine höhere Deckkraft zu erkennen. Je weniger Airbnb Wohnungen sich auf einer Stelle befinden, desto niedriger ist die Deckkraft des angezeigten Rechtecks.
In the second view there is a scatter plot showing the relation between price and views per month to identify possible patterns in user behavior. The x-axis stands for the monthly number of calls and the y-axis for the price per night.
In der zweiten Ansicht gibt es ein Scatter Plot mit der Relation zwischen Preis und Aufrufen pro Monat, sodass eventuelle Muster im Nutzerverhalten erkennbar werden. Dabei steht die x-Achse für die monatliche Aufrufzahl und die y-Achse für den Preis pro Nacht.
The corresponding app allows the user to make basic settings via a Bluetooth connection. This includes whether the translation is displayed in text or sign language. In addition, the user's own language can be set and, if necessary, the language of the other person. If you do not set the other person's language, it is in auto mode and recognizes the language itself.
The camera and the Lidar sensor are used to record foreign gestures. These are recorded by the camera, which is supported by the Lidar sensor especially in dark lighting conditions, and translated into the user's own language.
The infrared cameras attached to the lower frame of the glasses are pointed downward to register hand positions and convert the gestures into spoken language.
When navigating between the information layers I decided to use three buttons, which are spread over the screen. Each of them has a colored page indicator at the bottom. These only light up when you move the mouse pointer over the respective button.
The last button for the three different types of accommodation is divided into another three buttons on top of each other.
The top button is for viewing the whole apartments, the middle button is for private rooms and the bottom one is for shared rooms.
