E-mobility is playing an increasingly important role in our lives these days. Especially e-scooter services are very popular in big cities, due to their easy and flexible use and comfort. For our semester project, we took a closer look at these and developed an improved version adapted to the user, which increases the points of safety, comfort and efficiency.
E-Mobility nimmt heutzutage eine immer wichtigere Rolle in unserem Leben ein. Gerade E-Scooter Dienste sind sehr beliebt in Großstädten, durch ihre einfache und flexible Benutzung und dem Komfort. Diese nahmen für unser Semesterprojekt genauer unter die Lupe und haben eine an den User angepasste, verbesserte Version entwickelt, welche die Punkte Sicherheit, Komfort und Effizienz steigern.
To develop our concept, we first had to find out the user needs and the current pain points. To do this, we created three different user journey mappings for the user tests we conducted. Here we noticed that our main target group consists mostly of tourists of independent age. They have quite similar needs. Additionally, another large portion of the users are big city dwellers. We set up use cases for these user group.
Um unser Konzept zu entwickeln galt es zunächst die User Needs und die aktuellen Pain Points herauszufinden. Dafür ertsellten wir drei verschiedene User Journey Mapping für die durchgeführten User Tests. Hier ist uns aufgefallen, dass unsere Hauptzielgruppe größtenteils aus Touristen unabhängigen Alters besteht. Diese haben recht ähnliche Bedürfnisse. Zusätzlich ist ein weiterer großer Teil der User Großstadtbewohner. Für diese Benutzergruppen haben wir Use Cases aufgestellt.

The establishment of design principles was essential for the further course of the project, as every process was based on them and on the user needs:- intuitive

As a result, we sketched out possible concepts for the features we developed:

Using the concepts from the previous phase, we now had to physically test them. To do this, we made foam models for our components and checked them for ergonomics and functionality. In the process, we refined them further and further:
Anhand der Konzepte aus der vorherigen Phase, galt es nun diese physisch zu testen. Hierfür fertigten wir Schaumstoff-Modelle für unsere Komponenten an und überprüften diese auf Ergonomie und Funktionalität. Dabei haben wir diese immer weiter verfeinert:
The navigation system, which intuitively conveys the route via vibration in the handlebar and thus does not tie the driver to the display. The components were linked with Arduino and tested under real conditions.
In the further course we developed the turn signals and their operation. The trigger for the turn signals is built into the brake lever and works according to the 3-blink principle, similar to the car.
Combined together we created our final prototype:
Das Navigationssystem, welches per Vibration in der Lenkerstange den Weg intuitiv vermittelt und den Fahrer somit nicht an das Display bindet. Die Komponenten wurden mit Arduino verknüpft und unter realen Umständen getestet.I
m weiteren Verlauf entwickelten wir die die Blinker und deren Bedienung. Der Auslöser für die Blinker ist im Bremshebel verbaut und funktioniert nach dem 3-Blink-Prinzip, ähnlich wie bei dem Auto.

However, it was not possible to use it entirely without a smartphone due to the means of payment and account data, whereupon we additionally created an app with an integrated navigation system:

In order to give our scooter an identity under ideal conditions and in an overall concept, we mapped it with all its features in a 3D model. This shows the functionality of the scooter under real conditions and the interaction with the UI and the associated app.
Um unseren Scooter unter Idealzuständen, in einem Gesamtkonzept und diesem eine Identität zu geben, haben wir diesen mit den gesamten features in einem 3D Model abgebildet. Dieser zeigt die Funktionsweise des Scooters unter realen Umständen und das Zusammenspiel mit dem UI und der dazugehörigen App.
